SESSLEY BEGINNINGS

Our founder, Robert Sessley Sr., started his business because of his passion for carpentry and a desire to help homeowners improve their homes and businesses.

Sessley Construction began when Robert Sessley Sr. decided to pursue his passion for carpentry and grew his residential remodeling business based on his strengths – strong relations, customer service, and hard work. Robert’s carpentry wasn’t just casework; it was art, and he was the artist. The business grew through word of mouth for 30 years as clients desired what he made.

In 2006, Robert Sessley Jr. joined his father’s company and took over in 2007 and doubled its volume year after year for five (5) years. The company reorganized to expand into the commercial industry by adding an estimating/project management component and changed its name to Sessley Building Services to differentiate it from the residential remodeling focus of its origin.

Valuing customer service and strong relationships with clients has been at the core from the beginning and those strengths are the basis of why the business has enjoyed greater success.

CONTINUING A TRADITION OF ENTREPRENEURSHIP

Sessley Business Services continues to operate around its founding philosophies of customer service, relationships built from trust, and producing a product that meets their own high standards.

Robert Sessley Jr. has been continuing his family’s legacy building a business empire from the ground up. He is a third-generation entrepreneur, with a history of strong men who have formed his drive and motivation for achieving his potential. His grandfather was a sharecropper, who started and ran a successful janitorial business; his father built a successful carpentry business. He learned all he knows from their hard work and dedication over their lifetimes.

Robert’s focus for now and the future is on maintaining their family’s legacy of entrepreneurship while building his own mid-size general contracting firm that will serve as a model for minority inclusion in the commercial construction industry.

SESSLEY BUILDING SERVICES PARTNERSHIP WITH LEADING CONSTRUCTION FIRM

Leveraging a unique partnership to grow into a fully staffed, independent MBE general contractor.

In 2016, Robert Sessley Jr. and Lonnie Miles (Co-founder of Miles-McClellan, a former MBE, EDGE, HUB-certified company of 35 years) joined to begin a mentor-protégé relationship. Lonnie’s guidance and advice helped Robert transition his company into the commercial industry.

After Lonnie’s retirement, Miles-McClellan Construction continued the mentor/protégé relationship, staying true to their founding principles of supporting small, disadvantaged, minority, and women-owned businesses. The two firms created Sessley/MM, a joint venture to pursue a project and continue to develop their working relationship. After many successful JV projects, Sessley Building Services LLC was formed. SBS is an independent MBE company owned and operated by Robert Sessley Jr.
