WINSTON MILTON
PROJECT ENGINEER
Why or how did you get into construction:
I was introduced to construction by my family’s demolition and remediation company (McDelejams Technical Services) in Maryland. I went with my dad to job sites as a child and was always fascinated. As I watched my older siblings go up the ranks, I realized that I never wanted to do anything else and would follow suit.
What was your first project with Sessley Building Services:
My first project with Sessley Building Services was as Project Engineer on the Columbus City School HVAC renovation. I played every role on this project, from Project Executive to Superintendent, and learned all aspects of a large project in a short amount of time. It was the perfect opportunity to gain an abundance of knowledge and jump straight into the fire, just the way I like it.
The best part of your job:
The best part of my job aside from doing what I love is the permanent trail we leave behind. As you drive around Columbus you begin to see some of the projects the team has worked on or is currently working on, and it gives me a sense of pride knowing that somewhere along the line my hands had a part in getting that building to where it is now.
What do you like about Central Ohio:
Central Ohio is a growing area with a nice metro center but still has access to some rural parts outside of the city. I like that you can be downtown on a rooftop enjoying the weather and out fishing in the country all within the same weekend.
The best compliment anyone could give you:
That I made their day better by letting my positive attitude rub off on them!
Define Building Excellence:
Building Excellence is allowing yourself to care for a project like it is being built for your own use. I enjoy being thorough and complete with the work that I do, and for the finished product to be loved by the day-to-day occupants.
Most interesting place you’ve traveled and why:
Montego Bay, Jamaica. I went for my last spring break in college and had the best time of my life. I’m a connoisseur of Caribbean cuisine and was served the most authentic versions of the food. The people were very mellow and relaxed, I could see myself living there post-professionalism.
Best advice you’ve ever received:
Fall in love with the grind and everything else will fall in line.
